Enhancing Photo Quality
On Adult
Websites
Since the online sex photos have come close
to their max, porn site owners and managers need to be asking this
question. "What is left to
attract new customers and to keep existing customers."
As a former model photographer and as one of
the people who managed the infamous, West Hollywood, A-frame, swingers
house of the 1970's, I have some suggestions. Since I do
not access porn sites, I do not know which of these suggestions apply to
you. I'm basing my suggestion on what I see on the
_____ pages when I surf the web. You may already be
doing them. If not consider these suggestions.
The Goal - Porn photos are all about
fantasy. As much as possible bring the viewer into the
fantasy. Invite the viewer into the scene.
How? By doing the things that give the impression
that the viewer is actually on site witnessing or participating in the
scene. Here are some specific suggestions.
Distorted photos - Problem:
Foreground excessive large in relation to the background. Solution:
Increase the focal length of the camera lenses. Back the
photographers away from the models. This will
increase the depth of field ( the portion of the scene that is in
clear focus) and eliminate
distorted photos.
Portions of the photos out of focus - Again increase
the focal length of the camera lenses. Back the
photographers away from the models. Create clear focus in
the entire photo.
Model's point of attention - Problem: In single girl sets, all
too many models are interacting with the photographer, or they are
staring off into space. Solution: Teach your models how to interact
with the camera as if the camera were their dream lover.
Where does a man want his woman to be looking? Into his eyes or
at his genitals. At times, have your models look directly into
the camera lens as if that lens were her lover's
eyes. At times, have her look slightly down under the camera
lens as if she were looking at her lovers genitals.
Model's point of attention - when the model is
supposed to be intensely interested in something in the picture and
instead, she is constantly looking at the camera, this gives a
phony image. i.e. she's posing for the camera and
not doing what the picture content would otherwise indicate.
Excessive Tongue - A model with her tongue out in
some setting is fine. In others, it's excessive and
phony.
Model's Eye Dilation - Eye dilation is a
sign of sexual excitement. Notice the models with dilated
eyes. Use this to your advantage.
Model's Erect Nipples - Nipple erection is
another sign of sexual excitement. This can be enhanced
with a little bit of ice just prior to picture that feature her
breasts.
Portrait Versus Landscape - Is spite of the fact
that the internet is a horizontal medium, (landscape layout)
most internet photos are posted in a vertical format. (portrait
layout) Particularly with the newer monitors that are much
larger and with the present ability to direct the computer photos onto the
HD television screen, vertical formatting is a big waste and a
gross, artistic mismatch.
Model's Facial Expression - Smiles
go a long way. A model that appears to
be excited enhance a photo's
quality. Avoid scared or painful facial
expressions.
Photo Composition - Excessive background.
Frequently the photo composition has the model as only a small figure
in a larger background. Unless you are using the photo as
part of a set and it's intended to set the scene, move in or use a
longer focal-length lens so that the model fills the frame
without cutting off any part of her anatomy.
Photo Composition - Excessive cropping.
Frequently the photo composition cuts off any part of the
model's anatomy. Viewers find this annoying,
particularly when the photo shows only a portion of her face, her
breast or her genitals. Such close ups often work well when a
second photo is also there which includes the close up as part of her
plus her
full face, or her full breasts or her full
genitals.
Photo Composition - Breasts come in pairs.
Frequently the photo composition will include only one of the
model's breasts, or one breast will be in clear focus and the
other will be out of focus. In a normal sexual
setting, breasts come in sets of two. Both are in clear focus to
the viewer. Enticing photos follow this natural
format.
Fake Poses - When a model is obviously
posing for the camera, the photos look phony.
Male-Female Sex Scenes - Many of the photo
sets are designed as mini stories that follow a fairly standard
pattern. The typical man woman set goes something like
this: Man meets woman -- Sexual desire
arises -- They shed clothes -- Man gets laid,
gets head, gets hand job, etc -- Display the freshly-fucked
feeling.
Bring
the viewer into this type of scene. The camera is the
viewer. The camera is the third person invited to
participate in the scene. Ask, "What would I do if I
were personally invited to watch this scene?" Have
the camera play you as you shoot the photos.
Single Girl Strips and Displays Her Body - The
single girl photo sets also follows a fairly standard pattern --
She strips and invites the viewer to look at her
body. If you are starting the set with a fully
clothed woman, imagine you (the camera) are with her
and the two of you are about to get
sexual. You are both about to get laid,
but it hasn't happened yet. In addition to the
woman, photograph her excitement, her openness, her
friendly willingness, and her
invitation. Tease and then
fulfill.
Variety Is The Spice of Life Avoid
sets where the model is posed in
almost identical poses for several
pictures.
What Would She Look Like Naked? How
many men have expressed this
fantasy. More easily to count are
the number of men who have never played this
fantasy. Occasionally provide a pair of
photos. In one photo the model is
clothed. In the other she is in the identical
pose without any clothing.
Photo Size and Clarity - Large size photos with
high resolution are becoming the norm.
Stay up with the competition.
Photo Editing - by the webmaster staff.
All too frequently photos are uploaded onto
advertising sites that are so poor in quality that
they are not even viewable. Have quality
control. Regularly, check you own site
from a computer that is in some other
location.
Photo Editing - by the customer
Because of the variation in computer setups,
colors and brightness, and contrast very between
computers. for example, Mac computers
and PC computers tend to view the same picture
differently. A relative inexpensive and
relatively easy to use program such a PhotoShop
Elements can be used by the customer to correct the
quality of the photos, for minor editing and the
like. Consider selling an editing program
along with detailed instructions on how to make
basic photo edits.
Feedback - Ask you
customers and your potential customers what they'd
like to see. provide a feedback email
address.
Because
it's been many years since I've been behind the camera, there have
probably been some significant changes that I am not
aware of. Look to other sources
for additional tips. Also, if you have
suggestions that would add quality to this page,
please send an email with your
suggestions. Contact
